Supporting Agencies

Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), a quasi-governmental organisation under the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports & Culture (Monbusho), Government of Japan.

Scientists / Institution eligible to apply for support

While scientists belonging to Government supported Universities, Academic Institutes, S&T Research Laboratories in India may propose a collaborative activity, the Japanese scientists/ institution submitting a proposal to JSPS should belong to the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

Guidelines & Application Procedure

Joint Research Projects:

  1. Joint research projects should be formulated in the above mentioned priority areas only.
  2. The duration of the project could be 2 to 4 years, preferably 2 years.
  3. Financial support is generally limited to expenditure on exchange visits (1-12 weeks). DST would provide travel support for Indian scientists from their place of work to Japan and back and local hospitality for the visiting Japanese scientists and vice-versa by JSPS. However, in deserving cases some modest funding towards consumables, raw materials and contingencies in addition to the support for the exchange visits may be provided on the Indian side.
  4. Joint research projects should be jointly formulated in a common format prescribed by the Science Council (Format attached), by the Indian and Japanese proposers.
  5. The completed proposals in the prescribed format may be submitted to the respective nodal agencies in India and Japan, simultaneously. The Indian proposer should submit 10 copies (one original) alongwith the check list (5 copies) duly signed by the Indian participating scientist(s) and the competent forwarding authority of the implementing Indian Institute/ University.

Visit proposal in� prescribed format are to be prepared in the above mentioned priority areas in consultation with the respective Indian and Japanese Coordinators.����
