Indian scientific & technological
relations date back to the erstwhile Soviet days.
For example, Belarus played an important role in setting
up of International Advanced Research Centre for Powder
Metallurgy & New Materials (ARC-I) in Hyderabad
in early nineties. Subsequently, after it has become
an independent state, Bilateral Agreement on Science
& Technology cooperation was signed with Belarus
in 1993. Subsequently a Programme of Cooperation (POC)
for the period 1997-2000 was implemented through interaction
among scientists in the areas of: Physics, Mathematics
& Informatics; Machine building & Energy;
Chemical & Geological Sciences; Biological Sciences;
and Medicine. In the field of Biotechnology An Indo-Belarussian
Biotechnology Panel has also been set up. Activities
under this panel are supported by DBT.
