Background Information

The Inter Governmntal Agreement for Cooperation in Science and Technology between India and Cuba was signed in November 1978. The Department of Science and Technology from Indian side and the Ministry of Science , Technology and Environment of Cuba are the coordinating agencies from the two sides.

The Programme of Cooperation (POC) between the Department of Science and Technology, GOI  and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba was signed for the period 2003-06 in New Delhi.  The POC envisages joint R&D projects, organisation of joint Workshops/Seminars, Exchange of scientists,  promotion of joint development, demonstration and commercialisation of instruments, equipments, and other technologies and products of mutual interest.

Some of the areas of common interest of the two sides are:-

• Sugar Industry
• Organic Farming
• Vaccines
• Bio Medical equipment/products,
• Plant and animal biotechnology
• Remote Sensing Technology and processing of images.
• Agricultural Technologies
• Other areas of mutual interest.
